In a psychotherapist’s development, supervision is a necessary, important and integral part of the process of forming a professional identity. Supervisors are experienced psychotherapists who have undergone supervisory training. Effective supervision can help facilitate the professional growth of psychotherapists.
Based on the work of Carl Rogers, a person-centered approach to supervision centers on two main themes: the process and the relationship (Rice, 1980). Thus, from a Person-centred perspective supervision is a collaborative relationship. The intention is to understand and to explore counselling relationships, ethical issues and the supervisee’s personal and professional development. Person-Centred supervisors have a trusting attitude towards supervisees. This includes believing in their movement towards personal and professional self-development.
At our centre ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΙΘΑΚΗ, supervision is tailored to the individual needs of the supervisees and their respective clients.
Our experienced person-centered supervisor structures the supervision around the supervisee’s experience of the client and of their sessions together to facilitate the process of professional development within the psychotherapist. If you are a psychotherapist interested in supervision you may contact as for a trial session.
