What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a personal encouragement and support service that aims to help you achieve real changes in your life and to make the most of your potential by removing psychological barriers and utilizing your existing internal resources and strengths.

The origin of Life Coaching

Life Coaching was born in California, USA in the 1980s, when a number of specialists, psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors recognized that there was a particular category of people who did not need medical treatment or psychotherapy, but needed a completely different approach to meet their needs. These people needed a well-organized support and guidance model to identify their real needs and desires, to achieve their personal goals and bring their desired prosperity to life.

At the personal development and self-awareness centre, GIA TIN ITHAKI, our certified Life Coach will motivate you to discover your deeper needs and desires, activate your dynamic material, and set your priorities and goals appropriately within a supportive, empowering and pleasant climate.

At our centre we are also specialised in NLP Life Coaching.

What is NLP Coaching?

NLP Life Coaching is a type of personal support that aims to help everyone interested in realising their dreams and goals through Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP).

What is NLP?

NLP is an approach that aims to explore and enhance each individual’s ability to achieve excellent performance in the areas she or he desires. Creators of this approach are Richard Bandler (a mathematician, with studies in psychology) and John Grinder (a linguistics professor) who during 1970 in California, USA, attempted to analyse the technics of mainly three successful psychotherapists, Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls with the ultimate goal of decoding their methods and creating a clear model of human excellence.

The complex word “neuro-linguistic” refers to the mind, our nervous system and language, more specifically the words that we use. It is believed that our thoughts affect our body and vice versa, and that words and the way that we use them influence us by shaping our perceptions.

The word “programming” is borrowed from computer sciences and is used metaphorically for the way people tend to act, which is similar to how a computer executes a program’s instructions each time. In other words, our different experiences in life have “programmed” us to behave and act in a certain way.

Just like a computer program can be cleaned from viruses, written entirely from scratch or be replaced by another more sophisticated program, so can the “programs” of the human mind when they don’t bring the desired result or they stand against our personal development. These “programs” can be cleansed from “viruses” of our thought, that is, problematic thought patterns or can even be rewritten. We can thus re-program our way of thinking.

In a nutshell, NLP coaching is the study of human excellence and communication. It allows us to regain control of our state, our feelings and our behaviours. It allows us to transform our patterns of thinking and become more productive and efficient.

Certain beliefs of NLP

  • By changing our beliefs we are changing the direction of our lives.
  • People are not their behaviours.
  • People have all the positive mental resources they need in order to prosper.
  • There is no failure, only useful feedback. One can learn from unsuccessful attempts.
  • If a method does not produce the desired result then the method must be changed.

To whom is NLP Coaching targeted?

  • To ALL those who consider self-improvement important.
  • To athletes who want to improve their performance.
  • To parents who want to improve their relationships with their children.
  • To companions who want to improve their communication.
  • To teachers and professors wishing to become more effective in teaching.
  • To professionals who want to become more efficient in their work.
